The only thing we love more than a 5 star hotel, is a 5 star hotel that has an attached bar, with crazy food/drink specials. That’s means you're eating what 5 star chefs are making, for a much discounted price! We discovered this weekday lunch special this year, and it’s in the running for one of our 2013 Happiest Awards. This week’s special? Polenta fried whitebait, saffron Aioli, cucumber pickle + beer or wine for $15. Delicious.
Cricketer’s Arms Hotel (Port Melbourne):
One of our favourite backstreet pubs down south and very unlucky not to crack out Top 35 pubs in Melbourne. No doubt it will get a run next year in our Top 50 pubs in Melbourne. Our highlight: The Thursday $15 Spit Roast Lunch and Dinner and take a look at that beer garden!
Cricketer’s Club Hotel (South Melbourne):
Currently closed for renovation but due to open after the New Year. Let’s hope they continue their express lunch menu.
Cricketer's Arms Hotel (Richmond):
There are three kinds of people that head to a Richmond pub after a day at the MCG. Those who go the extra distance to the London Tavern, those that sneak into the Royal (is this Melb’s last skimpy bar?) and those that down a few here on route to the station. It’s very old school, and you don't have to barrack for Richmond to feel welcome.
