Irish Pubs In Melbourne (St Pat's Day Edition)

Weekly Specials: See here

Top 50 Ranking: Unranked.

St Pat's Day Festivities: Biggest Day of the year, as they takeover the grass area out the front of the pub, and put on bands all day.

The Last Jar, 616 Elizabeth St, Carlton

If you missed it, the Corkman was illegally demolished last year. The good news is that the owners have taken over the Last Jar nearby. We love the Wednesday night craic sessions and a menu full of hearty Irish fare.

St Pat's Day Festivities: Opens at 8am (!), then bands and Irish food all day.

The Quiet Man Pub
, 271 Racecourse Rd, Flemington.

It's the beacon out west. Irish owned and staffed with Irish backpackers, it's a homely place that isn't afraid to get rowdy when the music starts. Apparently it was built and designed in Dublin and shipped over here. Now that's authentic. Half the place is dedicated to the bistro, while the front bar is where to congregate for sports and such. It's a great option if you find yourself out that way, especially during Spring Carnival and of course St Pat's day.

Top 50 Ranking: Number 38.

St Pat's Day Festivities: INDOORS - Open from 9am, Live entertainment all day, Restaurant open from 9am
Street Party kicking off from midday, Live Bands and Dancers on main stage, Street Entertainment, Food Vans, Drinks Stalls

The Snug, 68 Sydney Rd, Brunswick.

The Snug changed hands last year and we were a little bit worried because the previous publicans knew exactly how to make a pub warm and inviting. Though we do miss them, the Snug hasn't dropped the ball. With extremely large portioned meals (try the breakfast rolls, though we also rate the roast very highly as well), quality Guinness poured to perfection, traditional craic often in the corner and great drink specials, it's one of the best pubs in Melbourne in which to lift your spirits. Also has a St Kilda location for people down south.

Top 50 Ranking: Number 19.

St Pat's Day Festivities: Open from 10am serving Breakie Rolls and Pints of Guinness!!! Live music kicks off in the early afternoon right through to the wee hours of the night!!

Bridie O'Reillys, 463 Chapel St, South Yarra.

Seems kinda wrong that an Irish bar would be on Chapel St, but Bridie's has been an unpretentious oasis for all those that can't starch their collars enough or wear Paris Hilton sunglasses.

St Pat's Day Festivities:

Celtic Club, 320 Queen St, CBD.

The watering home to many Irish expats in town, with many events throughout the year.

St Pat's Day Festivities: In what will be the last St Pat's Day in this location, the day will be filled with music "craic agus ceoil" (Fun and Music).

PJ O'Briens, Southbank,

Despite the homogenised Southbank location, down a dark shopping street, this pub is surprisingly atmospheric where sobriety is frowned upon and Herald Sun journos often have 8 hour lunches.

St Pat's Day Festivities:  Doors open @ 8am for a traditional Irish breakfast $25 including a pint of the black stuff. bookings essential. It doesn't stop there as we will have Irish dancers, pipers, live music all day and so much more to entertain you throughout the day. follow link to secure your spot for brekky.

Irish Times, 427 Little Collins, CBD.

If I did better at school and got a higher ATAR SCORE, I might be one of those smartly dressed workers that come here and buy pints with $100 dollar notes. Nice to have a little slice of Ireland in the city though.
