Melbourne The German Pub Crawl in Melbourne

Germans might celebrate Oktoberfest in September, but we are more literal here in oz. See the best German venues Melbourne has to offer.

Munich Brauhaus

Has a beer barn feel that ideally suits the German experience. While South Wharf does have a certain Darling Harbour type vibe, this place is very good for groups, and the pork knuckle is something pretty special. German staff have been faultless the three times we have visited (did the owners raid backpacker hostels?) and the happy hours work for us.

Hophaus

When we posted their paddle and pulled pork roll deal a few weeks ago, social media went wild. We think the beer list is superior than the Munich and the all day food deals from Monday to Wednesday should be taken seriously. Grabbing a table outside is the deal.

Luneburger Bakery

Perhaps a good time to mop up the beer. Lots of pastries and cakes.

European Bier Cafe

It's the after workers drinking den, where business types take advantage of great food and drink specials and get flirty. We especially rate the Monday 1/2 price beer deal and the $13 parma on Wednesdays is worthy of a visit as well.

Hofbrauhaus

We hope people haven't forgotten about this old girl just because new kids on the block are making noises. The schnitzel challenge where diners must demolish a 1.5kg schnitzel, chips and stein of beer for a free dinner is something we try to do bi-monthly. Other specials abound.

Berlin Bar

Needs some work on their specials but historically cocktail bars often don't go down this path, but this bar is a nice little finish to a day of German festivities.
